This song came from a season in life when it felt like everything around me was pulling me into darkness. When I feel overwhelmed I tend to isolate myself emotionally – even when I’m surrounded by people. I feel on the outside, misunderstood, and completely alone. That emotional space is where “Black Hole” was born.
I know many people are just like me, they carry pain silently—afraid to admit they’re struggling, afraid to be vulnerable, afraid that no one will really care, or that they will be judged. In today’s world, it’s easy for people to hide behind surface-level conversations or clichés when someone is hurting. But real life is deeper than that, and real struggles need real hope
When we started writing “Black Hole,” we wanted to capture that tension between standing on the edge of giving up, and realizing that even when the people around us feel fake, God’s unconditional love for us is authentic. Even when we can’t find any love for ourselves, God’s love is still reaching for us in those moments. The image of a black hole represents that place where everything feels like it’s collapsing inward—where fear, doubt, and pain try to convince you that there’s no way out.
But the truth is that God never abandons us there.
Romans 8:38–39 reminds us of something powerful: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers… will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
That truth is really the heartbeat of this song.
Even when people fail us, even when relationships break down or life feels overwhelming, God’s love remains constant. He doesn’t step away when things get messy. He steps closer.
One of the lines that means the most to me is:
You were the one who wouldn’t give up on me
You were the sun pulling me back from the black hole.
Those words reflect the moment when you realize that even when everything feels like it’s falling apart, God is still there pulling you back toward hope and life. His love is stronger than the darkness we sometimes feel trapped in.
The message behind “Black Hole” is really the same message behind ALTIRA as a band. The name ALTIRA comes from a Hebrew phrase meaning “fear not.” That idea is the guiding theme for this project.
Unfortunately, fear has been a driving force in much of my life and I’m ready for that to change. I’ve struggled with fear about the future, fear about my worth as a person, fear about whether I really even deserve love.
But God’s Word constantly reminds us that fear is not His will for us. Love, power, and self-control are the way God calls us to live. We can find this peace more and more if we commit ourselves to doing the hard work it takes to heal our old wounds, with God’s power to help us on our way.
My hope is that when people hear this song, they recognize that they are not alone in the emotions they feel. More importantly, I hope they remember that God sees them as His precious child, even in the darkest moments.
If “Black Hole” helps someone realize that they don’t have to hide their struggles—and that God is still holding onto them even when they feel like they’re slipping away—then the song has done exactly what we hoped it would do.
