Lasting Ever by Rebecca St. James and Cubbie Fink (Book Review)

I’ve been a long-time fan of Rebecca St. James’ music. It all started with her first album. When I was young, I didn’t own many albums. My siblings had Rebecca’s early albums to listen to, and that’s where I discovered her. I remember loving her songs with God-focused lyrics. She inspired me! And when I first met her was at a concert. I went with my oldest brother. After my concert with Rebecca St. James, I remember meeting her where she signed my album. It was Waiting For Me – which released in 2000. So many years ago!

It wouldn’t be my last meeting with Rebecca St. James. Many years later, I got to do a phone interview with her for the Christian music website, CMADDICT. I was an assistant editor then. My brother, Kevin, was, and still is the owner and senior editor. At the time of the phone interview, I was incredibly nervous. But it went well. Once I stopped the recorder for the phone interview, I went through and wrote it up for CMADDICT. I was elated that I got to meet Rebecca again. She’s such a kind, considerate, and inspiring singer.

I met Rebecca once again, and it was at a pro-life event. I got my photo taken with her and a book autographed. We even had time to hang out with her. It was all so memorable. And, I want to say that I have read most of her books. She wrote a lot of books about waiting for the right guy, since she, herself, was waiting for someone. When I was reading them, I was greatly encouraged by her writing. Fast forward some years, and I discovered that she did find someone and got married. I was so happy for her! I was even more excited when she recently wrote a book with her husband Cubbie Fink. I had to get it!

Lasting Ever is a wonderful book written by both Rebecca St. James and Cubbie Fink. It takes on their journey from Rebecca St. James’ music career to Cubbie Fink’s path that connected with hers.  It was cool to see how their path intersected – how God brought them together. They both shared their struggles, their faith, and the growth of their family. They were open and inviting as they talked about everything that was important to them. And I really loved being able to see that glimpse into their lives. Especially, in how God put everything together into one cohesive piece as a family. One that brings God glory.

It’s been a long journey over the years, and I’m so thankful for the musicians that have come along on the ride with us. Rebecca St. James is one of those people. I greatly admire her, and I always enjoy her music and books. Overall, I recommend this book for fans of Rebecca St. James’ music, and for anyone that grew up during that time when Christian music was becoming popular. So, yeah, I’m looking forward to any new music or books they may write. I’m sure they’ll be just as good, or not better than Lasting Ever.
