Behind the Song
There was a season in my life when I felt caught up in my own head. My thoughts were constantly racing, filled with questions and doubts about whether things could ever truly change. In those quiet, uncertain moments, “It Gets Better” was born.
This song is my personal reminder that life with Jesus always gets better, even when circumstances stay the same. When I spend time with Him, my fears begin to fade, my thoughts quiet down, and peace fills the spaces where anxiety used to live. His voice takes away fear. His goodness is undeniable. I’ve realized that being with Him is enough.
The opening lines came from a real place of always being anxious. I was overwhelmed by disappointment, wondering if my faith was strong enough to carry me through. But as I started to worship and talk honestly with the Lord, a sense of calm began to wash over me. It wasn’t that my situation suddenly changed; it was that my heart did. That’s what inspired the line, “Just when I think it can’t get any better, You show me something new.”
Just when I think it can’t get any better, You show me something new.
I’m reminded that Jesus never stops revealing His goodness. He leads me to places I’ve never known; deeper peace, unexpected joy, and a hope that defies circumstance. The chorus is my declaration of that truth: life with Him doesn’t just stay the same; it grows richer, fuller, and more beautiful with every step. I can see God’s hand in the small things. His grace is evident.
When I sing “It gets better, and better, and better,” it’s more than a catchy phrase. It’s my testimony. I’ve learned that God’s presence truly changes everything. Even when life feels uncertain, His peace remains. Even when I feel weak, His strength carries me.
My hope is that “It Gets Better” encourages anyone walking through a difficult season. Whether you’re battling doubt, loneliness, or simply waiting for God to move, I want this song to remind you that He is near. As Philippians 4:7 says, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” That peace is real, and it’s available to you right now.
I pray that as you do, you’ll feel the same hope and joy that I felt when I wrote it . This is your reminder that with Jesus, it really does get better and better.
