1. Purpose & Tone
- Op‑eds should present a clear, strong opinion on a timely issue.
- Write in a persuasive, conversational voice—as if speaking to an intelligent but busy reader.
- Avoid jargon; clarity and accessibility are key.
2. Length & Structure
- Word count: 500–900 words.
- Structure:
- Hook – grab attention with a story, stat, or question.
- Thesis – state your argument clearly in the first few paragraphs.
- Evidence – 2–4 strong supporting points with facts, examples, or anecdotes.
- Counterpoint – acknowledge and rebut the opposing view.
- Conclusion – end with a memorable takeaway or call to action.
3. Content Standards
- Originality: Submissions must be original and not published elsewhere.
- Accuracy: Fact‑check all claims; cite credible sources where appropriate.
- Respect: Critique ideas, not individuals. Avoid personal attacks, hate speech, or discriminatory language.
- Relevance: Focus on issues of public interest, policy, culture, or community impact.
4. Style & Formatting
- Use short paragraphs (3–5 sentences).
- Prefer active voice and vivid language.
- Include specific examples rather than abstract generalizations.
- If citing data, link to or reference reputable sources.
5. Author Information
- Include a byline with your full name.
- Provide a short bio (1–2 sentences) noting relevant expertise or affiliation.
- Disclose any conflicts of interest related to the topic.
6. Editorial Rights
- Submissions may be edited for clarity, length, and style.
- Publication is not guaranteed; editors reserve the right to decline pieces.
